Quiet

" Use the talents you possess - for the woods would be a very silent place if no birds sang except for the best." ~Henry Van Dyke

Illustrated for the word "quiet" for Illustration Friday.
The fog was so thick, it took the singing of the birds for itself, leaving the world a quiet place.

Things I make

This week's topic for Studio Friday September 22nd suggested by Gabi:
TOOT YOUR OWN HORN... LOUD!

tweet weet... (tooting softly, I don't like making a huge noise)

The thing I do best is animation, and I couldn't figure out how to get a video sample on blogger.. oh well.
But other things I do: make Fimo things, sew things, cross stitch, illustrate kids books,
design tattoos, make clothing for Sims2, make cards, make role-play portraits, (and doodle, draw and sketch.)

Anthrophobia

Anthrophobia, the fear of flowers.

"Poor Pansi, she's been terrified of flowers all her life. And now her husband has taken up gardening..."

Know of any strange and unusual phobias? See what others have illustrated for the word "phobia" on Illustration Friday.

On the Outside

I see my back garden out of my window, and my neighbor's giant beech tree. My garden is only two years old, so my trees will be bigger over time.

"My garden of flowers is also my garden of thoughts and dreams. The thoughts grow as freely as the flowers, and the dreams are as beautiful." ~Abram L. Urban

Change

If you don't like something, change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it. ~Mary Engelbreit

This is a drawing my daughter, Michelle, did in my tiny sketchbook. I think it represents "change" quite well. See how others represented the word "change" in Illustration Friday.

Sunflower Farm

"The Earth Laughs in Flowers" ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

This is a drawing I did while on holiday in The Netherlands. Sunflowers were everywhere! I only had a tiny notebook with me, so here is my belated drawing of the word "farm" for
Illustration Friday.

tools of my trade

This week's topic for Studio Friday September 8th suggested by Carrie: TOOLS OF THE TRADE.

" There's such a diverse group here, with such different art forms, I think it would be interesting to see what tools others use on a regular basis to create their art or product. " ~ Carrie

I'm a classical animator. The classics seem to be dying down for a while, being pushed aside by computer animation. But I think it's a fad, and the classics will always be there, going through its ups and downs, to be revived again and again.
That said, I am now working on a classically animated feature again! *happy*
1. I use a 4B pencil from Faber Castell,
2. a dark blue pencil, also Faber Castell (this is used for initial sketching in)
3. a Staedtler eraser
4. a lovely squishy kneaded eraser (from Germany, no idea what make)
5. a cotton glove. I got used to using gloves when I started out doing clean-up, and still wear them.
6. my animation disc, which I bought from the Don Bluth Studio when they left Ireland.
7. a giant stack of punched paper!

Safe

" Fear makes the wolf bigger than he is." ~German Proverb

When there are monsters all around in the middle of the night, hiding under your blanket is by far the safest place!
